Without trees and plants, all life on Earth would cease to exist. Trees create the massive amount of oxygen that nearly every animal needs to survive. But with massive deforestation projects happening all over the world, scientists are worried that human life may not be sustainable.

As long as land and wood are profitable and unregulated, people will continue to cut down trees without restraint.

It’s time to replant! Creative botanists and sustainable architects have been looking at new ways to incorporate oxygen-producing plant life in built human environments for a couple decades, and now the world’s first “vertical forest” is in the works!

The Project Plan For “The Tower Of Ceders”

Stefano Boeri is an Italian architect with a big dream. His firm currently operates out of Milan, Italy, and is committed to the research and practice of contemporary architecture and urbanism nationally and internationally.” He is planning to build the world’s first vertical evergreen forest in Lausanne, Switzerland, a 117 meters-tall (384-foot) residential apartment development. The building, named “La Tour des Cedres” (The Tower of Cedars) will be 36-stories tall, and covered from base to penthouse with over 100 trees, 6,000 shrubs, and 18,000 other plants.

This building looks like it was plucked out of a science fiction movie. Its form and function will be both elegant and useful. Residents will be protected from dust, noise pollution, and harsh winds by the plants, and will benefit from increased shade and the calming effect of natural elements around their home. Boeri is truly a revolutionary, and he may just have invented the future of sustainable industrial architecture!

Simply Amazing….and to use trees as shields from sun, wind and dust……very creative!!
